The 92-point Signature Chardonnay from Robert Oatley is a great example from Margaret River, my favorite Australian region for the variety. The cool sea breezes and warm summers here make it an ideal place for world class wines. The 2012 Signature Chardonnay is also a world class bargain, full of ripe apple and pear with lovely citrus notes to the aroma and finish. At $12.99, it’s a whole lot of wine for the money.
Australian Wine Companion
"Light straw-green; the statement on the back label that Margaret River is Australia's highest performing chardonnay region will cause hackles to rise in the Yarra Valley. This wine is not of itself intended to substantiate that claim, but is a supple, well-made, well-balanced and its white peach fruit is clearly varietal."
"Polished, generous and expressive, weaving apricot and floral notes through the pear and citrus flavors, lingering easily on the open finish."
A bright, mid-weight, white peach-accented, gently oaked wine grown on selected sites across Australia's highest performing Chardonnay region.
Bob Oatley's mantra is that all wines should be a "darned good drink", and the high quality Signature Series delivers immediate appeal, with satisfying flavours over an elegant frame. Each wine
embodies the grape varietal and region in which it was grown.
